Furniture Removal

Effortless Furniture Removal

Getting rid of your old furniture isn’t always an easy task. It can be heavy, awkward, hard to maneuver, and can be almost impossible to do on your own. It may require an extra set of hands and tools, such as a furniture dolly, to move the heavy and bulky pieces. Even with someone to help you with the heavy lifting, you still have to transport it to a donation center or the dump on your own.

Furniture disposal FAQs

  1. Take it to your local dump/transfer station

Find a local dump or transfer station near you and contact them to see if they take the type of furniture you’re looking to dispose of. Once they confirm that they take the items you can load them up and take them to their facility. Most landfills and transfer stations require the proper PPE (steel toe shoes, hard hats and reflective safety vests) to let you on their site. They may also require you to pay a fee to dump it with them.

2. Donate it to a local charity

If your furniture is still in decent shape you can take it to a local charity for donation. You can also check with them to see if they offer in-home pickup. Some organizations may take several weeks to come out and pick the items up, and some may not even be accepting items, which may not be ideal if you need your furniture removed quickly.

3. Check with your local metal recycling facility

Most metal furniture can be recycled at a dedicated recycling facility. You’ll need to determine if the metal is ferrous or non-ferrous before taking it to the facility. You can do this by holding a magnet up to it, if it sticks, it’s ferrous. Non-ferrous metals are more costly to dispose of, so be sure to check with your local facility to see if they take those items.

4. Rent a dumpster

Dumpsters come in various sizes. You can hire a company such as ExcessJunk, to bring drop off a dumpster for you to load your items into. Once loaded you can call and have the dumpster picked up and taken away. You’ll have to do all of the heavy lifting and risk others dumping their items in it overnight. Dumpsters are a great option for DIYers, but can sometimes be more costly then hiring a junk removal company such as ExcessJunk.

5. Contact your local junk removal company

Local junk removal companies such as ExcessJunk can help you dispose of your old furniture for a fee in an eco-friendly manner where possible. With our furniture removal services, we can often pick your old furniture up on the same day that you call, and we’ll even clean up before we leave. If possible we’ll donate the items that are in good, reusable condition. We’ll do all the heavy lifting!

Depending on where you’re located and the type of building you live in. Some trash companies offer a bulk item pickup, but most are not equipped to haul the items. Some city and counties offer furniture pickup while others do not. Be sure to check your local ordinance before placing your furniture at the curb, this can result in a fine from the city or county. Some HOA’s do not permit items to be left at the curb which can also result in a fine.

When it comes to getting rid of old furniture you have a few different options:

  • Check with your local trash providers as well as your city and county. Depending on your location different regulations may apply.
  • Sell your old furniture to someone and have them pick it up from your home
  • Donate your old furniture to a local charity
  • Haul your old furniture to your local dump or transfer station. This can be tricky if you don’t have a truck to transport the items with.
  • Hire a local junk removal service like ExcessJunk to handle your furniture pickup for you.

Disposing of your old furniture can be a challenging task, especially when dealing with large, bulky, and heavy items. The process becomes difficult and, at times, even hazardous when attempting to move and transport them outside the house. Depending on the condition and extent of damage, there are various methods available for getting rid of your old furniture.

Usable Condition

  • Donate them to a local charity or Non-Profit
  • Sell them at a garage/online sale
  • Leave them on the curb (this option can potentially be unsafe and lead to a fine)

Broken, Damaged and Unusable Condition

  • Take them to your local dump/transfer station
  • Call a professional Junk Removal Service to take your old furniture and dispose/recycle them in a proper way

At ExcessJunk, we go above and beyond to offer a secure, streamlined, and eco-conscious furniture removal service. Our commitment extends beyond merely getting rid of old furniture; we ensure it finds the most suitable destination. If your items are still in good condition, we aim to contribute to the community by donating them to charities.
